One of my cats got out of the apartment because of my roommate. There is one window with a loose screen. I have told him never to open it because of the cats. Today, he opened it and there was a bookcase underneath it. Girlcat got outside.
She’s back in now, to make a long story very short. I’m still shaking and still freaked out, and so is she. I don’t know how long she was out there because I wasn’t home when she got out. I just noticed that she didn’t appear when I came home and she ALWAYS appears when I come home and feed her.
God, I could kill my roommate. I am so glad he’s leaving forever in a week.
I still can’t believe he opened that window.
Girlcat doesn’t seem to remember me anymore and she hisses if I come too close. I’m going to give her a lot of space but, does anyone else have experience with this? What should I do?

you will probably have to restart your relationship and do it exactly like it used to be. that might jog her memory. She is still in shock.

give her some time the sounds and smells of the outside make cats a bit high like so continue acting the same so she feels safe! and space to

Let her stay in a confined space for the night, like a bathroom to feel secure and give her space from the other cats.

That’s happened to me as well :( just give her some space, food/water, and maybe something that smells comforting to her (blanket, pillow).

Give her time to calm down. If she’s hissing at you, don’t try to coddle her, but let her come to you. Feed her. Pet her when she lets you.

i’d feed her, when indoor cats go outside they’re bound to get freaked out. also maybe make sure that the apartment smells familiar.
